Hello everyone!
Greetings from Yellowstone National Park!
David and I hope this newsletter finds you well and planning your autumn photography adventures!
We just finished teaching our Yellowstone night photography workshop and had a great group! Despite having clouds a few nights, we encountered some dynamic weather conditions, including photographing a lightning storm over an erupting Old Faithful. Everyone kept an open mind, and despite the weather, we had fun photographing our way across Yellowstone at night.
One of the highlights of the past few weeks has been photographing and witnessing the Aurora. Due to the sun's increased solar activity, we've had quite a few opportunities to photograph and see the northern lights with our naked eyes at night. I (Jennifer) have never had the opportunity to see or photograph them before, so combining that with my favorite geothermal landscapes, it was an event I won't soon forget! It was magical, and we're so grateful we finally had an opportunity to see it unfold.
We start teaching our small scenes workshop in a few days, and we're looking forward to teaching our favorite genre of photography in this enchanting and magical park. We're excited to introduce our students to the magic of Yellowstone, and we're looking forward to this workshop being that the sole focus is smaller scenes. We will head home after the workshop, where we'll prepare to hit the road for the next two and a half months. During that time, we'll teach four workshops and teach at both Out of Oregon conferences. Our travels will take us from Colorado to Oregon, to Utah, and then Death Valley.
We're looking forward to Oregon and teaching with Out of Chicago again, alongside our friends and colleagues. We're excited to see a new landscape and to have the opportunity to photograph the tide pools. I (Jennifer) just purchased an underwater housing that I look forward to using in the tide pools to indulge my inner marine biologist.
And finally, a big THANK YOU to everyone who bought our monograph book, "Reverence: Death Valley." The support and interest truly humble us, and we have been grateful for all the messages we've received about how the book resonates. We still have a few copies left; get them while you can!
We'll be arriving back home in Colorado just in time for the start of fall colors season! Speaking of fall colors, we recently had a previously filled spot on our Colorado fall colors workshop open up, so if you're interested in joining us, it's not too late! Scroll below for more info.
Until next month, happy photographing!

Jennifer and I were honored to join Jack Graham, and John Pedersen on their long-running podcast We Talk Photo. We had a great time talking about NPN and the release of our Monograph.

The Narrows is an incredible experience, and a canyon that you will never forget. One day is not enough time to photograph all the Narrows offers, so we spend two days exploring this phenomenal slot canyon in Zion National Park. Because of the extensive time we've spent photographing and exploring the narrows over many years, we have the timing of the elusive glow down pat so that you can see and photograph the narrows at their best! The price includes all the gear you need (dry pants, canyoneering boots, walking stick) to explore the canyon comfortably. This is your last chance to join us in the Narrows for a while, as we will not be offering this workshop next year. Learn more...
Alister Benn is our special guest on NPN this week; he will give members critiques based on the theme of Expressive Images. Join today!
There are still a few spaces left for the second week of Out of Oregonwhere Jennifer and I will be teaching alongside other inspiring photographers. The rugged beauty of the Oregon coast is something we're looking forward to experiencing and these conferences are so much fun and inspiring. We love meeting all the attendees, and the camaraderie is truly genuine. Consider joining us! These events are a great way to learn from many different instructors, and explore the many photographic opportunities the Oregon coast has to offer.
Tim Parkin wrote a fascinating article explaining why making hue adjustments to our images can be important.
A must-read for all the photographers trying to build a business out of photography. David duChemin lays down the hard truth about building an audience on somebody else's platform (social media).

We recently held our Yellowstone Night Photography Workshop with a great group of talented photographers. We had challenging weather, but we made the best of it!

Hello Reader, We hope you're enjoying the winter season and finding opportunities to capture its beauty through your lens. Currently, we're in Colorado, eagerly preparing for an upcoming journey to Death Valley. Our last visit in December left us awestruck, as the park's landscape was dramatically altered by historic floods in August. The floods revived Lake Manly in Badwater Basin, a rare sight that has yet to evaporate. On our explorations, we discovered unique salt formations, sculpted by...
Hello Reader, As the vibrant hues of fall sweep across the land, we hope your hearts and SD cards are both filling up with memories and mesmerizing captures. As we wind down from a season of workshops and conferences, there's an undeniable energy buzzing around here (or is that exhaustion? 🤣). Fresh off an immersive session at Yellowstone, we're still awestruck by the myriad of intimate landscapes our group managed to create. The fascinating play of light, shadow, and the autumnal palette...
Hello Reader, We hope your summer is in full swing with adventures and photography, and we hope those of you experiencing sweltering heat are finding ways to stay cool. We just returned from an extended trip to Grand Teton and Yellowstone for a night photography workshop followed by a workshop in Crested Butte, Colorado. We decided to stay local this summer and explore our home state and all the beauty it encompasses. I've been exploring Crested Butte since 2002, and David has also been...
